Back in my hostel days like many other students, my friends and I were hooked on computer games like FIFA, Counter-Strike, and more.
Pulling off all-nighters until someone couldn’t lift their fingers was the norm.
Joysticks were our most prized assets instead of cellphones.
Oh, the good old days.
With each passing year, we came closer to the unfortunate fact that this won’t go on forever.
Once college gets over, each one of us has to take on the world which meant the probability of us being separated was highly likely.
To appease ourselves we often made promises that no matter what we will still be playing online games.
At that instant, we knew the emptiness in our promises because the internet services weren’t that great back then. Once we parted, it was Game Over.
Like everyone else, we moved on with our lives (It’s been 4 years since our college got over.)
Recently reminiscing about college made me recall these hollow vows during which I had a sudden realization.
In the last few years, technology has upgraded significantly, especially the service of high-speed internet.
We have countless bloggers, podcasters, and digital nomads.
Celebs and influencers stream videos of playing games together just like the way we once hoped for.
The sad reality is while making our promises we presumed they will be left unfulfilled due to technical impotency however that’s not the case anymore.
The reason we can’t play is that none of us have time.
And this isn’t sad. It’s nice that we are busy in our lives– having a job, spending time with our family and friends, working on our hustles.
The only thing is that our younger selves would be a bit disheartened.
Why?
Because today we have the infrastructure yet still fail to keep our word as we can’t allocate spare time.
