Hey guys I am reading Give and Take by Adam Grant.
According to Adam, there are three types of social interaction styles - Takers, Matchers, and Givers.
Takers as the name suggests are the selfish breed who only look for their benefits.Â
Matchers can act as both takers and givers depending on the person they are dealing with.Â
Givers are the altruistic kind that tries to add value to their peers.Â
Through multiple studies Adam concludes that across different industries the worst performers and the best performers are givers; takers and matchers land in the middle.Â
Apparently, few givers spend too much time helping others that they fail to work on themselves due to which they struggle.Â
However, there’s an interesting case study done in a Belgian medical school that is worth sharing.
The givers earned low grades in the first year. But as they progressed their numbers improved.Â
By the sixth year, they earned much better grades than their peers.Â
Any guesses what led to this turnaround?
With each advancing year, the curriculum shifted from independent tasks to teamwork and collaborative projects.Â
They had internships, clinic operations, patient care, and other stuff which required them to coordinate with different medical professionals and express concern to their patients.Â
Takers who shine in solitary tests aren’t as great while working with others.Â
I believe life works in a similar way.
It’s rare that you can pull off everything alone.Â
Networking and bonding with your peers will unlock your true potential.Â
The givers are more likely to become champs—not only chumps.
